Am I To Old To Make It To The Winter Olympics? I used to take ice skating lessons when I was 4 and did it for 4 years but decide to take a break and never went back I decided at age 16 I would like to start back up because I really want to one day go to the Olympics is that possible

    • Curator says:

      Yes, you are too old.

Ashley Wagner has been skating since she was tiny, is a two time US champion. She missed out on the 2010 Olympics by a hair and was ridiculously close to missing out again this year. If she can only just make the team, what makes you think you can?

You’re 16, are only just starting back up. It takes YEARS to get triples, and even then most skaters never even land a double axel. At 16, you’re nearing your athletic peak. You just don’t have time.

You can skate for fun. You can compete. But the Olympics are out, I’m sorry.

Who Is Named To The 2014 Figure Skating Team For Olyimpics? The team was to be announced @ noon today, Jan. 12,2014 but I can not find it any place, can you tell me who is named to the 2014 olyimpic US figure skating team?

    • Curator says:

It’s all over twitter at the moment, not too hard to find. It’s mostly consistent with the results of US Nationals, aside from poor Mirai Nagasu being bumped out by Ashley Wagner, despite Wagner’s poor performance.

      Women: Wagner, Gold, Edmunds
      Ice Dance: Davis/White, Chock/Bates, Shibutanis
      Men: not announced yet
      Pairs: Castelli/Shnapir, Zhang/Bartholomay

The Canadian Olympic Figure Skating team was also announced at the same time as the US team.

B&B: Would You Like To See Ashley Abbott And Nick Marone Return And Be Together? I miss both of these characters on these shows and both actors are out of jobs at the moment. Does anyone else think this would be kind of cool?

    • Curator says:

I’m not so sure about Ashley, I rather she be back on Y&R
BUT loved to see Nick (Jack Wagner)back on B&B, I do know he is playing or was playing Frisco Jones on GH
And he has been on Castle tho.

  • CherryPop says:

How Are Figure Skaters Are ‘invited’ To Competitions? I know that it means they have the privilege and the standing to go to certain competitions, but does the ISU send them some official looking envelope, or do they contact them via email or to their coach?

    • Curator says:

Nationals:You have to “qualify” for the Nationals through sectionals/regionals.

Class B Competitions(Nebelhorn Trophy, Finlandia Trophy, etc):Your federation usually sends you to these competitions either to 1.Get minimum technical score 2.Give more experience to younger skaters.

Grand Prix:If you’ve placed 12th or higher at Worlds, you’re guranteed TWO spots. Skaters who placed inside top 6 are divided into two groups according to their placements. Skaters in the same group cannot compete against each other during GP series-for example, Ashley Wagner can’t be assigned to same GP as Kanako Murakami and Carolina Kostner can’t be assigned to same GP as Mao Asada.

Medalists from Jr.Worlds are also guranteed one spot per skater. For example, Elena Radionova, this year’s Jr.Worlds champion, was assigned to Skate America and NHK Trophy. Stepanova/Bukin, this year’s Jr Ice Dance Champion, was assigned to Skate Canada. There are three other ways for skaters to be assigned to GP spots. They have to be:

      1.Inside top 24(seasons ranking) list.
      2.Inside top 24(seasons best) list.
+Even if you qualify for both of the conditions above, it does not mean that you’re guranteed a spot.
3.Or be chosen as a host pick. The host country of each GP can have up to 3 skaters from their country compete at that GP. The chosen skater does not need to have minimum score that is needed to compete at GP series.

Grand Prix Finals:Top 6 skaters(decided by the points that skater(s) earned from competing at GP series) from each discipline can qualify for GPF and compete there.

Usually, you have to compete at regionals/sectionals/Nationals in order to compete at big competitions. Entry forms are filled out by federations, not the skaters(though if a skater wishes not to compete at international competitions, they don’t have to do it), so if you do well enough to be noticed by the federation itself, you will be included in a national team and therefore, earn a spot to big competitions:)
