My Son With Autism Is Severely Obsessed With Mickey Mouse And Keeps Calling The Disney Store? Hello. I have a son who is extremely obsessed with Mickey Mouse and has been begging me non-stop to take him to Disney World in Florida (or Disney Land in California). Unfortunately, we don’t have any Disney Stores in our area either, so it is quite hard for him. My son has managed to get the phone number for Disney’s corporate offices, he’s called them dozens of times throughout the month asking if they will open a Disney Store in our area. Just recently, he had me call them and ask and the woman on the phone seemed angry that our number has called so many times asking the same question. I explained to her what’s been going on, and she hung up. My son then started dialing *67 to block our caller ID, but they instantly hang up if they recognize his voice & question. I really want him to stop calling them since it’s starting to become harassment, so I plan to block this number so that he can’t call them when he dials their number (through our phone company). He’s also harassed the Disney Stores in other states via phone for no reason. Besides the whole phone situation, my son also checks the Disney Store website daily to see if they have opened a location in our area (after playing the national anthem on YouTube). Before you ask, he already owns a bunch of Mickey Mouse merchandise ordered off of Amazon, so that’s not what his target is. His target is to meet Mickey Mouse (mascot character) and get a picture taken with the character.
We were actually in Orlando FL 3 years ago, but my son never mentioned he wanted to go to Disney World (even though he was obsessed then), so we never ended up going. When we returned home, he complained and asked why we never went there. Before you ask, he used to hate Disney Characters 4 years ago, and I never knew he would become obsessed later on, so I didn’t bother to ask him if he wanted to go or pay attention to Disney World. Unfortunately, we can’t go on another trip this year.
My son has had this obsession for 3 years now, and I am worried about his future. He’s refusing to go to family events (birthday parties, weddings, etc.) until he gets what he wants (this whole Mickey Mouse thing)! There are even some family members he hasn’t seen for over a year now (who don’t live far away), and his health is also a concern. I keep explaining to him that he really should’ve spoken up while we were in Florida, because now it’s completely impossible to get what he wants.
@Gwen Unfortunately it’s still a problem. However, I do have an idea. I’m planning on calling the corporate myself and asking one of the staff members to get on the phone with my child and pretend to be Mickey. Hopefully that will clean things up a bit!
@Linds I will. I’m gonna try calling the corporate and see if anyone there can get on the phone with my child pretending to be Mickey Mouse.
@Tony R He couldn’t from our house phone, but he could still use my cell phone.

What’s Wrong With My Brother? My brother is 19 months old and my mum says it’s autism. I didn’t think anything of it until my mum started saying stuff. He always hits himself in his face and he always bangs his head. He also hits other people in the face too. Is this just bad behaviour or just growing up or something else
P.s he is usually well behaved with everything else

Child Diagnosed With Autism, Help? Yesterday, our four year old was diagnosed on the Autism spectrum. He is a sweet and loving boy that almost never gives us trouble, however, he has issues with others as far as socializing goes. He doesn’t seem to be able to grasp how to be friends with other children or adults. The Dr. told me that he needs home visits several times a week by people that are going to work with him and that he needs to be in a preschool for children like him as soon as possible. This is going to SEVERLY disrupt our lives. My wife may have to quit her job to be available for the home visits and transporting him back and forth to the half day preschool. We may have to sell our home and move to an inexpensive apartment.
My son is so precious to us, but I just am at a loss. I have been feeling like suicide since the diagnosis. I am not selfish, just overwhelmed as I see life as I knew it fading away.
The Dr, said that based on what she sees with him that he will do “well.” She said he may even someday be mainstreamed in school and might even be able to get a job. THAT is what I have to look forward to? I just don’t know…
He scripts, echolalia, can ask for what he wants and follows directions, but no back and forth conversation at all.
