I’m 15 Y/o And I Want To Start My Journey To A Racing Career Is It “too Late”? I understand one is supposed to start Karting at 8-10, but I never had that opportunity. My parents know that driving has been my passion, but they never have done anything. Recently however, they have seriously opened up to me pursuing this drive. If I really- and I mean really, push myself to beat this steep climb for developing my skills, is it possible? And how long does it take to really start getting competitive enough to be noticed?

Well, I wouldn’t bother wasting your time. Drive as much as you want and invest as much time and energy as you want into driving…but realize that it’s only a hobby. The number of people who actually get paid to race is miniscule compared to the number of people who enjoy doing it. Competitive driving is not a career unless you’re in the top tenth of the top one percent.

Just treat it as a hobby, have lots of fun doing it, but please don’t stake your future on it or you’ll end up broke and disappointed and so will your parents. Go to college or a trade school, learn to be a mechanic and then work on performance cars or something. You’ll get paid well, work on awesome hardware, and be close to the racing world but you’ll actually have a salary.

Stake your career goals in reality kid. You’re not the next Ayrton Senna or the next Dale Jr. You very well could be good, very good, but the odds of you being THAT good are microscopically small. Don’t get your hopes up.

As mentioned by the others, very much so. F1 drivers are among the fittest sportsmen around. To quote Ayrton Senna “Anyone can drive an F1 car, but for how long?”

Every drive is a fight so to speak. G forces are going to throw your neck off to 1 side during cornering. So you’ve got to fight that tendency. G forces are pressing against your body making it hard to breathe. So youre fighting to expand your chest as you try to inhale. Before power steering, just turning that wheel was like trying to turn a 20lb weight left and right. To endure that for nearly 2 hours……Not to mention youre clothed with 3 layers of racing clothes coupled with sunny conditions, you have to endure thirst & fluid loss due to pespiration. A driver can weigh in 2-3kg lighter after a race.

What Is The Longest Homework You Have Ever Done? Hi my longest was an 18 paged biography on Ayrton Senna in 2 nights and spent about 12 hours doing it what is the longest you have ever done?

Would Ayrton Senna Still Be Alive If He Was Still With Mclaren The Day He Crashed? I’m a big F1 fan, and I believe that Senna was the greatest F1 driver of all time not just because of his victories, but because he lived and breathed F1 with a winners mindset. Although, would he still be alive if he stayed with Mclaren? I read about how horrible the Renault cars were when he joined their team hoping to use the advanced differential system which was later banned. It seemed like it was always breaking down on him.

    • Curator says:

This question is virtually impossible to have a definitive answer given. Who knows really? It would've been wonderful to have seen Senna accomplish all that he was capable of doing behind the wheel of an F1 car but as we all know that didn't happen. He was an extremely gifted driver with an above average intellect. More importantly he was a good man with a generous heart. Yes, he was and still is my all time favorite driver as I grew up watching the latter part of his short career. The Williams was a terribly flawed car after all the computerization was taken away and he knew this yet he pushed the car anyway. Senna pushed every race car that he drove, that's what made him great. So anything could've happened later had he not been killed at Imola. We will never know.
