So What Horse Has Been Held Back For The Belmont As A Spoiler Just In Case Someone Won The First Two Jewels? And How Sporting Is That Anyway? It seems like someone always keeps a horse rested up just in case there’s a chance for the Triple Crown.

Most handicappers want to try to beat the favorite. In California Chrome’s case I guess I’m not like most handicappers. I don’t think there is or will be a spoiler in the Belmont. No one in the Kentucky Derby nor the Preakness had enough power to beat California Chrome, he controlled the field, and actually won easily. Winning these two legs proves he’s tons the best, making him a standout. California Chrome so far is above average in his excellence, and so is his Jockey Victor Espinoza, who knows and rides him adequately, in a perfect degree. I’m going into this with a positive attitude. Of course, I realize anything can happen, but from where I sit California Chrome is the one to beat. He won consecutively his last six race, and is still a stand-out among this year’s crop of 3-year-olds. :).

The Racing Stewards At Belmont Park Just Voted To Allow CA Chrome To Race With Nasal Strips.Who Agrees With Me That He May Make History?
That’s right, you are reading this correctly. The stewards at Belmont park voted to allow CA Chrome to race with nasal strips about an hour ago- I saw the article in Yahoo Sports. With that last hurdle cleared, I think all we have to do now is wait. Anybody care to make a comment?

      Great news!!

As stated, in the many questions on this subject. I doubted the stewards would have a problem allowing California Chrome to run with the nasal strip. The use of the nasal strip has to be a request under the miscellaneous equipment rule. All California Chrome’s connections needed to do was to follow up by requesting the use to wear a nasal strip in the Belmont Stakes, then he will be allowed to the nasal strip, which they did. In the past some concern was over safety and the chance nasal strips may fall off. They are made much better these days. I would of been shocked if they don’t let him run because of it. Many were relating to I’ll Have Another, who had a similar issue, however, he was scratch for a leg injury so the nasal strip became a non-issue. I’ll Have Another had a problem in his left hind leg. The colt suffered tendinitis in his left front leg unfortunately ending his racing career.

I agree and I’m very excited that he may make history. With his talent he has a great chance. I’m really enjoying this moment. His connections are special people, well deserving of such a spectacular event. Going forward I’m carrying the hope for the sport and for California Chrome to make history, winning the Triple Crown 2014. CC is undefeated, and pretty much unchallenged as a 3 year old, now reeling off six straight wins. Love the story too. Trained by the father-son team of Art Sherman and Alan Sherman, CC was the first horse they entered in the Kentucky Derby. As a young man, the elder Sherman was the exercise rider for the 1955 Kentucky Derby winner Swaps, another California-bred horse. California Chrome’s owners are Perry and Denise Martin from Yuba City, California and Steve and Carolyn Coburn of Topaz Lake, Nevada. Very down to earth people. I’m excited. Thx for the great news Starlight 1.

California Chrome May Miss Belmont!!? Omg yesterday I was on top of the world and now im panicking and want to cry and cry. Will they really pull him over a nasal strip? Will NY allow it? Im sooooo heartbroken right now

The following is information from the NYSGC

According to a statement issued via the NYSGC’s Twitter account, “Neither NYSGC nor NYRA Stewards have (yet) received request to use nasal strips in (the) Belmont Stakes.

“If request to use nasal strips is made, (a) decision on whether to permit or not will be evaluated and determined by the Stewards. NYSGC TB Rule 4033.8: ‘Only equipment specifically approved by stewards shall be worn or carried by jockey or horse in a race.’ ”

I doubt the stewards will have a problem allowing California Chrome to run with the nasal strip, if that’s what his connections request. In the past some concern was over safety and the chance nasal strips may fall off. They are made much better these days. I will be shocked if they don’t let him run because of it, but ya never know. As stated in my other answers. I don’t see why it would be a problem things have changed since I’ll Have Another request. I’ll Have Another was scratch for a leg injury so the nasal strip became a non-issue. I’ll Have Another had a problem in his left hind leg. The colt suffered tendinitis in his left front leg unfortunately ending his racing career. Reading this in the news today is very upsetting and has bummed many fans. Here’s hoping for the best.
