Should Saints Pick Up Maurice Jones-Drew? Is he a better tail back than Darren Sproles? Would that make a better impact with MJD?

  • Best FA Running Back On The Market? Knowshon Moreno had a breakout year in 2013 while Ben Tate averaged almost five yards a carry for a pathetic Houston club. Rashad Jennings played well in place of the oft-injured R2IR (McFlimsy is also a free agent) while Mojo Drew’s horrible season could be explained by his playing for a lousy football team.

So who’ll be the RB of choice this season; one of the above, or will it be a dark horse like Donald Brown or Toby Gerhart?

    • Curator says:

Moreno is a solid player, but I don’t think he can keep up that production on another offense. His numbers are inflated because of how good the players around him were. Tate seems to have the whole package, but I think Darren Sproles will have the biggest impact on whichever team he lands on. He isn’t an every down back, but he is so dynamic in the passing and return game. The best fit for him would be a team that is in position to win, and needs that x factor on offense and Sproles can provide that.

Whisenhunt. Whisenhunt. Whisenhunt. WHY for God’s sake, does it take him three quarters to get the offense going. If he had called the whole game like he called the fourth quarter, the Chargers would have beaten the Broncos. He was calling “safe” plays, trying to control the clock even when Mathews clearly was having ankle issues. You CANNOT rely on your defense to stop Peyton and the Broncos. Our defense held them to under 30 points and that’s all you can ask for. The Broncos’ defense isn’t that great, so why would you not allow ONE OF THE BEST QUARTERBACKS in the league to get in a rhythm and throw the ball. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

Having said that, even though the defense held them to under 30 points, they could not get off the field on third down for the life of them. Three minutes remaining, Manning converts a 3rd and 17 to a WIDE OPEN receiver. Yes, we had several second-stringers in, but god damn you play in the National Football League you have to do better than that. Way too many encroachment penalties. I don’t know why they kept jumping offsides when it was clear Manning was not going to hike the ball until the play clock ran down. And where the hell was our pass rush on Manning? He’s obviously a “pocket passer” and is almost as immobile as Rivers, so why was there not a whiff of pressure on him, Pagano? Baffling.

But I think this is on Whisenhunt and the offense. In my opinion, you have a top three quarterback. Rookie of the Year wide receiver in Keenan Allen. Old, but when used in the right situations, a very effective Antonio Gates. A “Darren Sproles type” running back/screen pass outlet in Danny Woodhead. A giant with good hands in Ledarius Green, and a long ball expert in Eddie Royal. Who knows why it took three quarters for Whisenhunt to figure this out. Frankly, I’m over him and he can go to Detroit.

I hope our new offensive coordinator allows Mathews to run the ball, but lets Rivers control the game. We need someone who’ll be more aggressive and will let this offense flow. Excited for next season!
