10 RBs That Are Not Clear-cut Starters But Need To Be Drafted? Give me your list of 10 RBs (ranked in order) that are not going into 2013 as the team’s feature RB, but could potentially be valuable and you would draft in the middle- to- late rounds? Notes/justification for some of your rankings would be much appreciated.

      1. Shane Vereen
      2. Giovani Bernard
      3. Johnathan Franklin or Eddie Lacy (whoever goes into the season as #2)
      4. DeAngelo Williams or Jonathan Stewart (ditto above)
      5. Danny Woodhead
      6. Bryce Brown
      7. Ben Tate
      8. Zac Stacy
      9. Shonn Greene
      10. Kendall Hunter

Kendall Hunter would be near the bottom because San Francisco has so many running backs, but he appears to be the one with the most potential behind Frank Gore. Shonn Greene won’t do much except steal some touchdowns from Chris Johnson on the goal line. I wouldn’t trust him on a week to week basis though because he won’t see many yards to go with those scores. The situation in St. Louis is completely up in the air right now. The consensus seems to be that Richardson will start but I think Stacy will get a ton of work. He’s being compared to Doug Martin already. He played in a tough SEC conference in college, put up great numbers and he’s a big bruiser of a back who knocks what he hits backwards. Tate = contract year. Enough said. The addition of DeAndre Hopkins to complement Andre Johnson will open up more holes for the running backs, and Foster has an injured calf and might not get as many carries as he did in the past. Eagles new head coach Chip Kelly loves running the football. Bryce Brown showed lots of promise last year in McCoy’s absence. Put two and two together. Woodhead is more of a sleeper for PPR than anything else. He will be San Diego’s third down back but he is very explosive and can be used in a variety of ways. What makes Woodhead so popular is the fact that Ryan Mathews can never seem to stay healthy for long. If he gets hurt again, Woodhead would become the go-to guy. I expect both Stewart and Williams to get at least 600 yards on the ground and both seem to be getting drafted around the same time. Lacy is the bruiser in Green Bay while Franklin is the speedster. Both will be used differently but both need to be drafted just by virtue of the fact that they’re playing for one of the best offenses in the NFL. I expect Bernard will start at some point for the Bengals because BGE is a very predictable back. Coach Lewis says he loves Ellis and that Bernard will be “a great compliment” to him. It’s also hard to argue against BGE because he never fumbles, but I’m still very high on Bernard. Last but not least, Shane Vereen. This guy is slated to go around 80th overall and he could damn well end up producing like a RB2. Look at all the weapons New England lost. Look at how well Woodhead performed in the change of pace role at RB for the Pats. Look at the upside given how frequently Ridley fumbles the ball. No backup running back has more upside than Shane Vereen.

How Would You Rank These Young RB’s F? In order of productivity
    Le’Veon Bell
    Chris Ivory
    Lamar Miller
    Montee Ball
    Eddie Lacy

    • Curator says:

Lacey was the starter behind Trent Richardson the year before, had the most experience and knew the system… Yeldon was a true freshman last year.. Yeldon had to learn the system for one thing…
Yeldon also lost Saban’s trust for a couple of games because a couple of times he didn’t hold onto the ball and fumbled… You don’t fumble playing for Nick Saban and expect to be a starter….
