Lions seize Golden opportunity in adding Tate; defense is next step

13 March 2014 | 5:37 am The Lions seemingly endless pursuit of wide-receiver help struck Golden, which is slightly different than gold. They landed Tate for a reasonable $31 million over five years, and before we rehash how badly they still need defense and how careful they must be with their salary cap, let's acknowledge the importance of this.

What Deal Do You Think Is A Better Signing? Avid sports fan here. So who got the better signing?..

The Jets got Eric Decker for 5 years, 36.25 million, 15 million guaranteed.

The Lions got Golden Tate for 5 years, 31milliom, 13.25 guaranteed.

Who so you think got the better deal? Tate can catch, he’s dropped 4 passes out of the last 144 catchable passes thrown his way. He is also reliable in the playoffs. Decker is a proven TD machine who is a heck of a target. He on the other hand, kinda went away once playoffs hit. I think the Lions got a better deal, but that’s just me. I have been a Lions fan for 10 years or so now, and they have always been my favorite team.

Detroit Is Going To The SB? After all the years of put-downs, all the awful draft picks and feeble coaches, after Dan Orlovsky, I think Detroit has a shot at the Super Bowl. Golden Tate has just been signed, I think Jim Caldwell and Joe Lombardi can really take this team far! I just hope we draft Darqueze Denard or Justin Gilbert this draft. I know the Bears are REALLY good and so are the Packers (With Aaron Rodgers) but I think we at least have a shot at the NFC North title! What do you guys think?

  • Are The Chicago Bears Making The Right Choice By Not Bring Devin Hester Back Next Season? Devin Hester said the Bears are planning of going in a different direction without him. Are the Bears making the right choice not re-signing him?

    • Curator says:

Yup, even though he is a Bears legend he costs too much for what he does. They need a slot WR and a returner and they can go out and get a guy like Golden Tate who does both things very well. Or they can get a great returner in the draft for chump change. He will be missed but they had to release him because of the contract.

What 5 Free Agents Would You Like Your Favorite Team To Target? Steelers
1-Jason Worilds(cant let young talent slip away like they did with K.Lewis last year)
2-TJ Ward-Safety who can play in the box similar to Polamalu.
    3-Brandon Albert-Need a pass protecting LT.
4-Paul Soliai-NT would help in run game.
5-Golden Tate-tough reciever who can help move the chains
    Honorable mention-CB-Knowshon Moreno,BJ Raji,Rodgers-Cromartie,Shaun Phillips

    • Curator says:

Nice list. I really like Raji as an honorable mention. I think in the right system he could be an even bigger beast. Not so sure knowshon and Tate would be In My top five or honorable mention list. Depending on your feelings about Talib’s durability he has to be taken into consideration.

  • Isaac™ says:

What Teams Will Be Interested In Golden Tate? He had 898 yards and 5 TDs in a rush-first offense this year. He’s also a very skilled punt returner. When the Seahawks do come out passing, Russell Wilson doesn’t pick favorites, he spreads the ball around.

Put your bias and hatred towards him aside, what teams will be interested in picking him up, if Seattle doesn’t?

    • Curator says:

A couple teams have no weapons outside. The Raiders, Jags, and Jets come to mind. A team like Indianapolis, who skidded hard after losing Reggie Wayne, might be interested too. We'll just have to wait and see

  • Nolan says:

Who Are Non Tradable Players For The Seahawks? As in players they wouldn’t even think about trading and will most likely be Hawks for life?

    • Curator says:

For now, the players that look like they are staying for a good amount of time are: Russell Wilson (QB), Kam Chancellor (SS), Earl Thomas (FS), Bobby Wagner (MLB), Percy Harvin (WR), Jermaine Kearse (WR), and Doug Baldwin (WR). The reason I chose not to say Marshawn Lynch is because his contract is up in a few years and I am not sure the Seahawks will choose to resign him because they have Robert Turbin and Christine Michael, and Lynch will be asking for a big contract. I did not say Richard Sherman because the Seahawks have said that thye will sign Earl Thomas before Sherman. Hopefully Sherman gets resigned and he accepts a slightly lower pay-check to help our Seahawks be the best team possible. Golden Tate is a free agent, and although he has mentioned that he’d take a pay-cut I am not sure whether or not he will remain in Seattle for his whole career.

  • Does Anyone Else Think The New York Giants Will Be A Playoff Contender Next Year? Sure they havent made the playoffs for two years in a row.

but last year in spite of a losing record, their defense was eighth in yards allowed per game. and if they do acquire some free agents like golden tate, i could see them going 9-7 next year.
