Did I Win This Fantasy Baseball Trade? It’s a 5×5 roto league with no bench and weekly lineups.

    I got

    Cliff Lee
    Kelly Johnson

    I gave

    Dan Uggla
    Johan Santana

What do you think? Did I rip myself off? I know Lee is hurt right now, but he’ll be back for next week. I figure I can always deal one of my top 3 pitchers later if I need top end offensive help.

    This was my lineup.

    C Brian McCann
    1bAlbert Pujols
    2bDan Uggla
    ssJed Lowrie

I think you should trim up your offense, and grab up all the closers you can start;Like if you have 5 RP/P
roster slots, you should have 5 closers (And Scott Downs has just become the Angels closer.)..

The reason I like closers in your scoring system is it’s not unusual for closers to get 30 saves a year, and
that would be equal to 1 of your SPs getting 30 wins in a year; That’s not gonna happen. Also, closers only pitch 1 inning a game,so they wont give up much runs,or take many losses. But they will get some Ks & Ws as a bonus.

On offense I like Dee Gordon better then Aviles going forward.I think he has a hundred run potential along with 60 S.B. potential.Aviles may have started out hotter, but he’s streaky & should cool down to a complete stand still if his history stays true.

I also like Freeman better then Trout & Beltran, unless you actually start 5 OFers. And I’d also drop an offensive backup for Beachy or Anibal Sanchez..Offensive backups should take a backseat to SPs & closers because offensive backups sit on your bench most of the time while pitchers actually score you points!

Please Help With These Trade Questions In Fantasy Baseball!? I’m in a 12 team roto league with NO BENCH. I have two offers on the table right now, and I’m trying to figure out if I should do one, or both of them.

3 questions, and also, if you have any questions, I’ll answer them for you in this space.

    1) I get HANLEY RAMIREZ and JOSH BECKETT

I give CC SABATHIA and ERICK AYBAR (throw in cause I would drop him)

2 I get ZACK GREINKE and EDWIN ENCARNACION

I give MARK TEIXEIRA and JOHAN SANTANA

    3) Is my team really better off with my roster? Here is my team before the deals, and after. Also, is my team good enough to have a chance at the title?

    BEFORE

    cBrian McCann
    1bAlbert Pujols
    2bDan Uggla
    ssErick Aybar
    3bBrett Lawrie
    ifMark Teixeira

    ofBryce Harper
dhJason Kubel (Chris Young on DL)

    spFelix Hernandez
    spCC Sabathia
    spMat Latos
    spJohan Santana
    spAlfredo Aceves
    rpScott Downs
rpHeath Bell (It’s a two rp league, so having Aceves in a sp will hopefully win the saves category for me, than I will trade or drop him and stream pitchers in the 2nd half to catch up on innings.

    AFTER THE DEALS

    cBrian McCann
    1bAlbert Pujols
    2bDan Uggla
    ssHanley Ramirez
    3bBrett Lawrie

Why Don’t Baseball Teams See That Long Terms Contracts Do Not Work Out.? Most players that have long term contracts are no where near worth what they are being paid. More often then not, they actually harm their team because they tie up a lot of money that could be spent somewhere else. Am I the only one that thinks it is crazy to pay a 41 year 20 million dollars a year?

    Alex Rodriguez 275 million/10years
    Albert Pujols 250 million/10 years
    Joe Mauer 184 million/8 years
    Todd Helton 141 million/9 years
    Carl Crawford 142 million/7 years
    Alfonso Soriano/ 136 million/8 years
    Barry Zito 126 million/7 years
    Vernon Wells 126/7 years
    Jayson werth 126/7 years
    Mike Hampton 121 million/8 years
    Carlos Lee 100 million/6 years
    John Lackey 82.5 million/5 years
    AJ Burnett 82.5 Million/5 years

None of these contracts have worked out and they are going to continue pay millions of dollars to these player who are well into their 40s.
    And how many have failed?
Yes I agree, but my point is that long term contracts rarely work out.

    • Curator says:

Hindsight is 20/20. When teams give players long term contracts, they are expecting to get the player that is doing well. Though some of them you can tell right off the bat that they wont work out. John Lackey is one of them. He was an ok pitcher when he was with the Angels but when you put an ok pitcher in a big market like Boston, he rarely does well. They normally get worse. And I was surprised pujols got as many years as he did. The guy is 31 now, and who knows how he will be at the tail end of that contract.
