      Congratulations on your achievement.

A few suggestions on improving further:

-Work on your short game. Chipping, putting, bunker shots, pitch shots, etc. You should spend at least 2/3 of your practice time on the short game area.
-Track your stats. When I play, I track fairways hit, Greens In Regulation, number of putts, sandies (up/down to save par from a bunker), etc. Use shorthand (or codes) for one-off shots (long putts made, hazards, OB, etc.). What this will do is help you understand where you are doing well, and where you’re lacking. My scorecards have what appear to be a language unto itself, but I can look at it a week later, and detail exactly what happened and why.
-During your round, stay hydrated (not beer/alcohol)…especially during the hot summer months.
-Minimize the pain. By this, if you hit a bad drive, don’t make it worse. Rather than go for the hero shot, get the ball back in the fairway. As Ken Venturi used to say, take (insert giant unholy number here) out of play. Take your medicine.
-Play the course with bogey as your par. In other words, play a 400-yard par 4 hole as a par 5.
-Around the green…try to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible (hitting flop shots is very high-risk).

      Hope this helps.

There is no age limit for all but one event, which I cover at the bottom. Moreover, being “exempt” into an event can be as a result of many different means, but the most likely opportunity for someone of considerable age to play in a non-major would come via a sponsor’s invitation.

That very inroad allowed Jerry Barber to compete in two PGA Tour events in 1994. It was during the latter of which (Buick Invitational) that he became the oldest to ever play in a PGA Tour event. Barber was 77 years, 10 months and nine days old. (He died seven months later.)

PGA Tour pros that have status when they turn 50 have a difficult decision to make. Such is the case right now for Fred Funk, 52, who is exempt through 2010 (for winning the 2005 PLAYERS). Funk is committed to a full PGA Tour schedule next year and will turn 53 in June.

And Tom Kite burned a one-time career money exemption on the PGA Tour in 2005, playing 12 events as a fully exempt member at the age of 55.

Most people aren’t aware that winners of the PGA Championship before 1970 were given lifetime memberships at the top of the priority rankings. Therefore, any of the following golfers could enter most non-majors at any time if they wanted, regardless of age (although don’t expect it): Jack Burke, Jr., Billy Casper, Dow Finsterwald, Jack Fleck, Ray Floyd, Doug Ford, Al Geiberger, Don January, Gene Littler, Bobby Nichols, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Bob Rosburg, Lee Trevino and Ken Venturi.

The only tournament today that has an age limit is the British Open, which allows all former champions under the age of 65 (as of the scheduled date of the final round) to compete.
