California Chrome In KY Derby? I know California Chrome is going to be the favorite. That’s obvious. Everyone’s talking about him, and they have every right to. He has captured the attention of the horse racing world. I DO want him to win the Kentucky Derby in a week, but I have some concerns. If you look at his racing record, he’s only ever run in California, most of which at Santa Anita park. And he’s done the best at Santa Anita, having a couple wins and scattered 6ths in the other locations. I’m just worried with the stress of traveling and a new track in a different time zone, different people, etc etc. It’ll be overwhelming for him, and my biggest concern is the track. He’s been running the most at Santa Anita. He’s won almost every time he ran there. He is clearly very familiar with that track. Do you think Churchill downs will impact his run? This will be his first time racing out of state. That is a huge cause of concern for me. Please let me know what you think. Thanks

How To Get Seats To 2015 Kentucky Derby? My question is mostly for the people that are able to get tickets to the Derby on a yearly basis. I logged on to the derby’s website back in November when seats went on sale and noticed that only a few of the sections went on sale. They had the new area around the first turn, lower grandstand areas, and the field area for sale. They didn’t have the clubhouse, interior premium, jockey club, etc. for sale. So do those people that get the option to buy those areas have season tickets to the 70 regular races at Churchill Downs or is their some kind of personal seat license? I am guessing it is one or both of those options. If so, how much are the “PSL’s” or is there a long waiting list for season tickets? Trying to figure out if the cost of the PSL or season tickets makes the total cost be about the same if I just went through a scalper and saved the effort. I know it is a little late for this year, but the Derby has been on my bucket list and I figure it is never too late to try and plan the trip for next year.

    • Curator says:

A PSL is required, and people hold on to them forever. You can always ask the box office to put your on their list. The PSL is only for Oaks/Derby weekend. Seating is cheap and plentiful otherwise.

There is a temporary seating area for Derby weekend on the clubhouse turn. These seats are sold through the box office; or at least they were this year. They are (IIRC) sold as a Derby/Oaks package.
