Kentucky Derby Post Positions 2012: Complete Listing for Every Horse

Thu, 03 May 2012 10:02:53 -0700 The post positions have finally been drawn and most trainers can breathe a sigh of relief. The Kentucky Derby is the biggest race in America in both size and prestige, and post position can mean the difference between wearing a blanket of roses and finishing up the track. Two post positions seem to be the worst on Derby day, with the No. 1 horse nearly being forced to run into the rail and the … http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1170528-kentucky-derby-2012-post-positions-complete-listing-for-every-horse

Kentucky Derby 2012 Post Positions: Bodemeister and Biggest Benefactors of Draw

Thu, 03 May 2012 04:47:35 -0700 Wednesday's post position draw for the 2012 Kentucky Derby didn't yield too many surprises or disappointments. Nor was any horse particularly harmed by the way things shook out. In other words, it was a fair affair, though these three contenders stand benefit from their respective positions, however slightly, in Saturday's "Run for the Roses." Bodemeister Bodemeister came into Wednesday's … http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1170340-kentucky-derby-2012-post-positions-bodemeister-and-biggest-benefactors-of-draw

Archarcharch And The Dreaded #1 Post Position? How many feel that the #1 Post Position may have cost Archarcharch The Kentucky Derby?
Lookin At Lucky drew #1 last year and had simular Problems , He later won the Belmont Stakes

    • Curator says:

The #1 post position is not as bad as some people think because 12 winners have launched from the #1 post position in the history of the Kentucky Derby, which is tied with the #5 post position for the most winners in the history of the race. On the other end of the statistics, gates 17 and 19 has never produced a winner in the history of the Kentucky Derby race. It was an injury which cost Archarcharch the race. It is reported that he has a lateral condylar fracture of the left front fetlock joint and replay reviews of the start show that he stumbled in the first couple strides coming out of the gate and they believe it was caused by stepping on a soft spot on the track surface which caused his fetlock joint to overbend. The trainer initially thought the injury may have happened when Archarcharch got bumped by Brilliant Speed shortly after they came out of the gates because it was then that Archarcharch dropped back but jockey Jon Court said he felt his saddle slip coming out of the gate and before the bump. So Archarcharch stumbled coming out of the gate and replay reviews of the start confirms that. I do have some criticism for jockey Jon Court though because the injury could have been disastrous. I think Archarcharch should have been pulled up long before he was and not pushed on because it was obvious in the backstretch that Archarcharch was in distress because he lost his action and would not stretch out. I think the race could have easily ended with a disastrous injury like Eight Belles, although Eight Belles ran as though she was impervious to the pain she must have been in before the crushing breakdown of her ankles at the end of the race.

Who Is Your Choice To Win The Preakness? And If Given A Mythical Bankroll Of $100, How Would You Bet The Race? I’ll add details before the race, but as of now I’m looking carefully at horses with inside post positions that ran in the Derby. Kentucky Derby starters historically run well in the Preakness vs. non derby starters. Have to wonder if the grounds crew will scrape the track as well which could lead to a faster track or better inside.

I’m leaning toward Friesan Fire, liked him in the KD and hard to go off if you believe the last was a true fluke, seems he was due to bounce after three graded stakes wins. But was it too bad of a performance?

What do you say? Sorry can’t pay you cash – only promissory notes and at least 11 yahoo points to BA after the race. 🙂
Thanks for the answers so far – my wager would be a $5 exacta box of

    5 Frisean Fire
    8 General Quarters
    13 Rachel Alexandra
    2 Mine That Bird

That’s $60 and $20 to win and place on #5 Frisean Fire to complete the $100.

Good luck all and may the best filly, gelding or colt win!

I am VERY sorry that Mine That Bird is losing Calvin Borel, but would do an exacta box of him and Rachel A…

HELP With STATS For Kentucky Derby? Hello.
I’m doing a Statistics Project on if Post Position in the Kentucky Derby really matters. What kind of statistics test could I use for this. I already have a data table made out with the Post Position number of each horse that has won and the number of horses in each race.

Do you guys have any suggestions???

    Thanks in advance!!

    • Curator says:

You will test for p; you’ll determine if there is any significant
      difference in the results.

You can then accept or reject the null hypothesis.
