Kerry Wood

Kerry Wood is an instructive tale of how phenoms can get sidetracked

Fri, 18 May 2012 13:19:19 -0700 I flew into Denver today (above is the obligatory "out the hotel window" shot of downtown) to hop aboard the sinking Mariner ship. When I flipped on the internet, I was surprised to see all the stories about Kerry Wood's impending retirement. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/thehotstoneleague/2018237012_kerry_wood_is_an_instructive_t.html?syndication=rss

Kerry Wood Reportedly Set to Retire from Chicago Cubs: Fan's Take

Fri, 18 May 2012 10:30:00 -0700 The golden child of the Chicago Cubs –Kerry Wood– reportedly plans to retire after "one last outing." That outing might be today, it might be tomorrow, it might be in a year. OK, it most likely will be today or tomorrow, but the moral is he wants one last chance to take the mound and soak in the last drops of his more than 13-year career. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/kerry-wood-reportedly-set-retire-chicago-cubs-fans-173000500–mlb.html

Can Sombody Please Explain To Me Why Kerry Wood Still Plays Baseball? Is he just waiting until his arm falls off? He’s clearly done. The Cubs need to get that loser out of town. If not for 1 game in 1998 he would be remembered as the guy who soiled himself in game 7 of the 03 NLCS.
Why did the Cubs resign him? It was clearly a Ricketts move. Which is a perfect example of why Owners need to stay away. Theo Epstein wouldn’t have signed Kerry Wood–for double what he was making last year. It goes against everything Theo brings to the table. I guess I should have asked–why does he still play baseball for the Chicago Cubs? What a waste.

Is Kerry Wood Has Been Or A Never Was And Why? Okay so we all can pretty much again that Kerry Wood stinks, or do we I guess it is all on opinion. But would you say that Kerry Wood is a has been, or a never was and why? His rookie year with the Chicago Cubs, he looked like he could have been a good pitcher, a couple of games into his rookie season he struck out 20 Houston Astros batters. But after that season his career went down the drain, the next season he had to have Tommy John surgery that had him lost for the entire 1999 season, and he battled injuries off and on as a starting pitcher. Then in 2007 he moved to the Cubs bullpen as a relief pitcher. And he spent the next 2 seasons in their bullpen, and a closer in 2008, before they acquired Kevin Greg and didn’t resign him, he think spent brief time with the Cleveland Indians, and New York Yankees, before he returned to the Cubs for the 2011 season, which I believe he saw Ron Santo’s funeral as a perfect time to whine his job back with the Cubs. And thus far this season, in just 2 games he has blown wins for the Chicago Cubs, so you must think that he is on the right team, he sucks and the Chicago Cubs sucks. So is Kerry Wood a has been or a never was and why?

He won the ROY in 1998, and we all know about the 20 K’s. From 2001-2003, Kerry Wood won at least 12 games, had an ERA under 3.70, and had at least 217 K’s, leading the league with 266 in 2003. In 2008 for the Cubs, he saved 34 games having an ERA of 3.26 and was an all-star. It’s been 2 games. Please stop flipping out.

My first stop would be wikipedia or google for a quick reference. I actually had a similar question not even 5 days ago, but I couldn’t find the answer. If it’s possible, try getting help from someone with more knowledge/experience/expertise, like a professional if it’s possible. This can be pretty important.

I saw a forum with this online, but I didn’t have time to read it all. Try checking it out. I want to help out more, but I’m not 100% sure about the answer. Sorry I’m not much help. I hope you found your answer! Good luck

Cubs Fans : Cubs Resign Wood Thoughts? The Cubs have agreed to a new deal with veteran reliever Kerry Wood. The contract was announced at the Cubs Convention (which naturally drew a raucous ovation from fans), with David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com (via Twitter) the first to pass on the news.

can’t say im surprised didn’t think he would go to the phillies or any other team..wonder how much he got though

They should make Kerry Wood their closer now that he can’t start anymore. It’s pretty obvious by now that Marmol (age 29) will never master his control and his stuff is becoming more and more hittable. My money is that Marmol will be out of the league in 3 years.
