  • This Is How Police And Media Should Have Responded To Sandy Hook Shooting? http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=8963781

A lot is being speculated about the Sandy Hook tragedy, but probably what most people should be focusing on (and are not) is on the fact that even though Adam Lanza fired between 150 and 180 shots–which according to gun experts must have taken between 7 and 10 minutes–no authorities were contacted. When authorities finally got there (and I’ve listened closely to the audio of the police scanners), it seemed that it took them quite a few minutes looking around the area before going in. And then it was like if the police took their time (and didn’t sound alarmed at all) when they called out for ambulances. Even worse was the fact that all ambulances, except maybe one or two, were ordered to stay at the fire station a block or so more away.

Now that this Lone Star College shooting has taken place–and people don’t necessarily have to go back in their mind to Columbine, Virginia Tech or other mass shootings to make a comparison–does everyone understand now that this is how police (and media) respond to this type situation?

    See the difference now?

Granted Newtown, Connecticut was a quiet, small town and police might not have had the same training or preparation. But what about the media? Big media simply has not demanded answers to questions such as:

    1) Why no phone calls to police sooner? There were many more adults alive in the school.
    2) Why police didn’t get there sooner? From scanner it seems that they are just touring around a neighborhood at night during their regular watch.
    3) Why NOT allow all emergency responders to reach the school?
    4) Could some of the people have been saved? Was CPR or other resuscitation attempted?
BOBBY, I specifically refer to the behavior of the police officers as per the police scanner audio. I have lived in a few cities and stated of the U.S. and I’m sorry to say that some people (including the authorities themselves) seem to be living in another time and age. It may so happen that the poor folk of Newtown are exactly like that. Maybe in their mind it was just some teenager shooting for sports or to get people’s attention. From the scanner you cannot detect any urgency in the officers’ voices.

In Miami, for example, it doesn’t matter what you dial the police up for, you will immediately get an attentive, action-ready individual on the other side of the line. Even if you’re calling to report excessive gun fire during New Year’s eve!!! Having lived in this city for three decades and having contacted police for different situations, I can see the difference is huge. Also, just watching police shows on TV it gives you an idea of how action-ready police

  • If School Is On Lockdown, How Are So Many Standing Outside And Not Taking Cover? I just saw a small size video on Miami Herald which is supposed to be directly taken from KTRK in Texas about the Lone Star college shooting over an hour ago. I noticed that although the shool is on lockdown there are dozens of people simply standing out there, even as the police are going round the building.

Doesn’t lockdown mean that everyone take shelter and not stay out in the open?

  • Meow? says:

More Guns = Less Shootings???? Give everyone five and stomp out murder 100%

18,000 students at Lone Star college?

    9,000 must have had guns.

    But still people got shot?

Me detects a little hole in your theory.

This could have been a drug deal gone bad.

    Does that make us safer?

  • Anonymous says:

Shooting Today At Lone Star College In Houston, Should Teachers Be Armed? Should teachers be armed to stop shooters? The shooting today is being said to have happened outside the school but if it is on-campus should teachers have a gun to stop a shooter or would they misfire and cause more casualties?

    • Curator says:

Nope. Only thing worse than stupid people with guns is untrained people with guns. Hire security guards all you want, station police there, but never arm teachers because most will not have the knowledge to use a weapon.
      Security guards: Good
      Teachers with guns: bad
