Here We Go, Most Surprising Free Agent Signing This Year? I’ll start by saying, I’m a die hard Rangers fan, so us signing Yu Darvish, after CJ Wilson signed with the Angels…. couldn’t be happier. So that one doesn’t much, surprise me.

Now with all the talks of Prince Fielder going to the Rangers, Nationals or Mariners, it was quite a shock that he signed with the Tigers. Even his dad Cecil Fielder, was shocked, saying “That just shocked me.” And, “I didn’t even see Detroit in the picture.” That was pretty big.
Jose Reyes going to the Marlins, is really cool to me. I want to see them build an amazing team that can compete.

One of the biggest, was my favorite player Jim Thome, signing with the Phillies. I should’ve seen it coming. He hit 47 homeruns, his first year with the Phillies(One behind Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt’s single season team record of 48.) The next year he tied Alex Rodriguez for the MLB lead in home runs as they both won a Babe Ruth Home Run award. So even though it was a very acceptible option, still threw me off a bit.
    Some other weird ones are:
    Cuddyer – Rockies
    Saito – Diamondbacks
    Buehrle – Marlins
The biggest one as we all know is Pujols going to the Angels
    Papelbon – Phillies

Like I said, I’m a Ranger fan, so with Darren Oliver signing with Toronto, it’s a relief. His prime was in the 90’s, and he just lost it in the past few years.
What I’m getting at, is I have ultimate respect for any baseball fan. So, I don’t bash on people because of their team preferences. I want to hear Free Agent news from your home/favorite team, how you feel about it, and some of your ideas on the left over free agents, and where they can go. Like currently there are rumors of the Rangers going after Roy Oswalt now that Prince is out of the picture. Other key Free Agents are: Vladimir Guerrero, Johnny Damon, Roy Oswalt, Magglio Ordonez, David Ortiz, Derek Lee, Hideki Matsui, Nick Swisher,
Pudge Rodriguez (If he can step it up again.)
So lets hear it. Weigh in guys. I want legitimate reasoning, not being biased towards your team, and making insane guesses on players.

If Magglio Ordonez Were To Retire Today Would You Remember Him More From His Time In Chicago Or Detroit? 8 years in Chicago – .307, 187 HRs, 703 RBIs, .364 OBP
    7 years in Detroit – .313 BA, 107 HRs, 513 RBIs, .373 OBP

His best single season (2007) was in Detroit when he hit .363 and drove in 139 runs.

Personally, every time I think of him I think of his walk off HR to send the Tigers to the ALCS or his sliding play to save Justin Verlander’s first no hitter.

Will The Tigers Resign Magglio Ordonez? Victor Martinez is out for the year, but Magglio Ordonez may be gone also. He’s been a dependable player for a number of years, but took a significant fall off in both average and power last season. He’s a 37 year old outfielder just coming off a $10 million contract. He’s in free agency, but no one has signed him yet. So does Detroit resign Ordonez or does he go elsewhere?

BQ I’m undecided whether he has the credentials for Cooperstown. What do you think and why?

    • Curator says:

Martinez being out sure does change things, but re-signing Ordonez is still iffy. He hasn’t been a full-time player in two years. Perhaps the Tigers are privy to information we don’t know. I’d say they pass on him.

As for the Hall of Fame, his .309 lifetime batting average speaks loudly for him, but that’s about all he’s got. It is MOST impressive and his RBI totals are good, too. Perhaps if he could put in a couple of more full seasons at that level. Right now I’d say probably not.

  • Can These Players Find A Job..Where? 1. Bobby Abreu….

    2. Vlad Guerrero..

    3. Magglio Ordonez..

    4. Casey Mc Gehee

    5. Andres Torres…

You can’t just say he would make a good DH, if he’s currently not in a DH role. Answers with some analysis please,
Because a DH has certain requirements, so just saying a player could be a DH is not acceptable, Because he’s not hitting now, how will he hit if he’s a DH? Every washed up ball player could do that, right?

    • Curator says:

Abreu and Ordonez should both call it a career. They’re clearly on a downward spiral. Both will get picked up somewhere anyway.

Vlad has a couple of good years left. I think Baltimore resigns him.

I’d love to see McGehee join my Twins, but it’s not going to happen. He’ll get a nice raise in arbitration and stay with the Brewers

Torres? I don’t even know why he’s in the major leagues. If he catches on somewhat, it will be as a defensive replacement. He’s not worth the 2.2 he made last year. He certainly doesn’t scare oppposing pitchers.
