11 April 2014 | 12:01 am With a 2014 Masters field that many dubbed "wide open" due to the absence of Tiger Woods , there is an unfamiliar name at the top of the leaderboard after one day. Bill Haas has made the cut at Augusta National four straight years, and he finished in a tie for 20th in 2013, but he has certainly never found himself in this kind of position. Did Any Of You Know Jim “Rocky” La Rocco The Isshinryu Master? Sensei La Rocco was a 9th dan in Isshinryu and lived and taught here in Cumming, Georgia. He passed away suddenly on Saturday afternoon April 5th, 2014. When I moved to Georgia in 2008, La Rocco Sensei quickly became my best friend here. He was always open to my input on training and often had me share my training even though it was not Isshinryu. The martial arts world lost a great man in his passing. I was just wondering how many of you knew him or had heard of him. Those that knew him were lucky. He will be missed by many people both within the martial arts and those that were not.

  • Juilliard As A Feasible Goal? I am currently a sophomore, and upon this year I decided to pursue my passion of music in piano. Here is a little background info of my experiences in piano:

-Played piano for 11 years. I am currently 16 years old.
-Southern California SYMF winner for 3 years.
    -Various other regional awards.
-Southern California State First Alternate Winner this year (2014)
-Invited to attend a Master Class at the LA Convention Center (2014)
-Passed and exempt of MTAC CM Testing for theory and examination.

    Future goals:
-Attending the Young Pianist Competition for Concerto in hopes of winning to be able to perform with a live orchestra.
-Planning on getting Panel or Master Class next year.
-Host my own concert by June of 2015.
-Be able to be accepted into Juilliard as first choice.

All of this may sound decent and all, however I am a bit disarrayed at the moment. I just went and did my research on the audition requirements for Juilliard. I won’t say I wasn’t surprised at the high expectations, but I found myself unprepared for their requirements.

As of current I am lacking a full Sonata which meets their requirements, a substantial Romantic composition, one etude from Chopin and a contemporary substantial work. I have less than 2 years to perfect these giant elephants in the room and I’m not confident if I can perfect these in time.

I have asked for opinions, but I would like some opinions from people outside my realm, and possibly some feedback? Thanks!

Is “Ra1a1” The Aryan Gene? I found this from Wikipedia: Most of the North Indian population is of Indo-Aryan descent. The Ra1a1 gene haplotype is found in at least 50% of the populations from North/East India to Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

I know about the Indo European Languages but the Aryan gene only reaches Eastern Europe and maybe Southern Europe as well. But why was Hitler so obsessed with Aryans and why did he say that Aryan is the master race and should have blue eyes and blond hair? And why do some white people think they are Aryans when they are not? Is this because of this whole World War two propaganda which Hitler created? Did Hitler and the White people wanted to be Aryans so that they can be part of Old World history? You know what Old World is, right? If you don’t know you can check out Wikipedia although nothing is detailed there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_World

I think the closest people to Aryans nowadays are some of the Afghani Pashtuns/Pathans and they are very rare. They look different and unusual.

Prepare A Monthly Manufacturing Overhead Flexible Budget. Need Help With Fixables? Zelmer Company manufactures tablecloths. Sales have grown rapidly over the past 2 years. As a result, the president has installed a budgetary control system for 2014. The following data were used in developing the master manufacturing overhead budget for the Ironing Department, which is based on an activity index of direct labor hours.

    Variable costs Annual Fixed Costs

    Indirect labor $0.44 supervision 43116
    indirect materials .51 depreciation 17496
    factory utilities .32 insurance 12228
    factory repairs .21 rent 24276

The master overhead budget was prepared on the expectation that 475,100 direct labor hours will be worked during the year. In June, 41,600 direct labor hours were worked. At that level of activity, actual costs were as shown below.

Variable—per direct labor hour: Indirect labor $0.47, Indirect materials $0.48, Factory utilities $0.35, and Factory repairs $0.26.

    Fixed: same as budgeted.

******* I need help calculating the fixed costs with the manufacturing overhead flexible budget.
I thought that they would be the 43116, 17496, 12228 and 24276. But they are not.
I have calculated all the variable costs but no luck with fixed. Please HELPP

FAFSA Keeps Saying I’m An Independent? So FAFSA keeps saying I’m an independent, but I’m currently not. I’m 20 years old, I’m a full time student, I have no job right now, and I currently live at home with my mother.

    • Curator says:

Generally speaking, if you answer no to every one of the dependency questions, you should get a message telling you that you are a dependent. You can try a couple of things:

      1) Check the name, date of birth and social security number that you entered in the student demographics section at the beginning of the FAFSA and make sure they’re correct. Also check the answers to the questions about your grade level and the degree you’ll be working on (Quesitons 29 and 30). Make sure you aren’t indicating that you’re working on a graduate level.

      2) Make sure you actually entered No to all of the dependency questions. If you’re doing a renewal, watch out for the last one. On renewals, the FAFSA will fill in no for all of the questions except the last one. Many students don’t see that it’s not checked off like the others and they skip over it.

      3) Remove all of your answers to the dependency questions, save, and exit the form. Then go back in and reenter your answers. Sometimes the form gets stuck, and this can help to clear it.

      3) Click on the Contact button at the top of the page. This will lead you to information about how to get help by phone, email or live chat. Use one of those sources to contact the student services department and they can assist you.
