Can Analyse The Poem Poppies By Jane Weir For Me? Hi this is the poem and if anyone is studying AQA english lit it would help as I have barely notes on it and my exam is on Thursday. Any help would be greatful! By the way it’s in the conflict section so if you could relate it to that it would be useful 🙂 Thanks 🙂

    by Jane Weir

    Three days before Armistice Sunday
and poppies had already been placed
on individual war graves. Before you left,
I pinned one onto your lapel, crimped petals,
spasms of paper red, disrupting a blockade
of yellow bias binding around your blazer.

    Sellotape bandaged around my hand,
I rounded up as many white cat hairs
as I could, smoothed down your shirt’s
    upturned collar, steeled the softening
of my face. I wanted to graze my nose
across the tip of your nose, play at
being Eskimos like we did when
you were little. I resisted the impulse
to run my fingers through the gelled
blackthorns of your hair. All my words
    flattened, rolled, turned into felt,

slowly melting. I was brave, as I walked
with you, to the front door, threw
    it open, the world overflowing
like a treasure chest. A split second
    and you were away, intoxicated.
After you’d gone I went into your bedroom,
released a song bird from its cage.
Later a single dove flew from the pear tree,
and this is where it has led me,
skirting the church yard walls, my stomach busy
making tucks, darts, pleats, hat-less, without
a winter coat or reinforcements of scarf, gloves.

On reaching the top of the hill I traced
the inscriptions on the war memorial,
leaned against it like a wishbone.
The dove pulled freely against the sky,
an ornamental stitch. I listened, hoping to hear
your playground voice catching on the wind.

Burn Is Now Giant Open Wound Any Care Suggestions? Around a week ago i was messing with my parent’s clothing steamer and got a huge burn. I didn’t really know what to do so I put frozen peas on in which resulted in the patch of skin falling off. To cover it up I used surgical tape, aloe vera to cover the wound in the day time and rubbing alcohol to clean it out once in the moring and once at night. My friends mom said to put neosporin on it and have a cotton ball in contact with the wound and use the tape to hold it on and use this bandaid brand antiseptic wash on it. For both methods I changed my wound dressing and have been washing it out twice a day once before bed a once when i get out of bed unless its coming off after school. My parents can’t know and the doctor isn’t an option. Yesterday was a close call because we were invited to a pool party to celebrate Victoria day in Canada so i used my period as an excuse. Basically I need to hurry up because memorial day weekind is coming up and its still exposing flesh and hasn’t closed up too much so are there any care secrets for open wounds? I dont care if i get a scar.

Things To Do In NYC Over Memorial Day Weekend? Me, my Mom, and one of my best friends are going to NYC over memorial day weekend to see Avenue Q on broadway. We’d like to do some other stuff while we’re up there so I was wondering if any of you knew some fun things to do in New York. Nothing too expensive since we’re already paying for the broadway tickets, but maybe a fun show or event, or some fun places to go and see. We’re both 15 year old girls, but not girly girls, more like geeks, if that narrows it down a bit. Ok, thanks!

When Should I Propose To My Girlfriend? Now Or Over The Long Weekend? Then ring I bought for my girlfriend just arrived from Blue Nile today. Now the big question. When and Where. We already have a paid trip to Orlando, FL for the long weekend so 4 days in Orlando over memorial day weekend which is my hometown. Will see some of my friends and family and really just have a good time. But not sure it will be easy to find a private moment to propose. There will surely be waterworks. I did think to just do it here where we live as opposed on the mini-vacation? Do ladies have any preference?
Coincidentally her dad popped up in town this weekend so we already had a little chat. We are going to a show with another couple Friday night. I could drive out to the beach that day. Or take her to epcot saturday afternoon, eat and watch the fireworks. thought canoeing at wekiwa springs too. but it might be too hot. not sure how romantic that is either if she is worrying about sweating.

What Are You Plans For Memorial Day? It is the
    not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

    It is
    the VETERAN,
    not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

    It is
    the VETERAN,
    not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

    It is
    the VETERAN,
    not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

    It is the
    VETERAN who
    salutes the Flag!

Thanksgiving is a day when we pause to give thanks for the things we have.

Memorial Day is a day when we pause to give thanks to the people who fought for the things we have.

    • Curator says:

Almost right. It is the VETERAN who secured and secure the rights we have under the Constitution. Yes, we should take time to remember and honor them. I will.
