The peak is tonight, so you should still be able to catch some meteors. The Alpha Aurigids actually last about 2 weeks (Aug 25 – Sept 8).
This shower is not really a particular spectacular one – it only averages about 10 meteors an hour.
The Orionids in October do better at about 20/hr.
But the big one this year is the Geminids, in December at an average of 120/hr.

Can You Watch A Meteor Shower Before Its Peak Day? This year the famous Geminids meteor shower will peak on Dec14. The thing is that it’s on a Monday. I don’t exactly have the time to stay up late on Sunday or Monday night. I was planning to watch this meteor shower on Dec12 or late that night with my bf. So I was wondering if I can watch it like a day or two before the peak day of a meteor shower but still will have a pretty night sky?

    • Curator says:

Yes, meteor showers can occur days prior and days after they hit their peak.
This is the 2009 calendar of meteor showers from the International Meteor Organization. Their home page can tell you how to get the very most out of your meteor shower viewing experience.
When 2010 gets here, change the date on this link to 2010 and you should see the calendar for all of next year too. (The last time I checked, they hadn’t quite finished building the 2010 one yet.)

What Time Does The Meteor Shower Start Tonight? OK so my sister told me that the biggest meteor shower of 2009 starts tonight but she does not know what time and I’m having trouble finding a straight answer on Google. So please if anyone knows what time the meteor shower starts (and if there is even one she’s gets her facts wrong alot) please tell me! Thanks!

Can The Meteor Shower Cause An Increase In Seizures? My mom has an epileptic dog. He usually goes months with out having a seizure at all. The meteor showers have started, and tonight they are at the closest point to us. The dog has had 4 seizures today.
Is it possible that a meteor shower could cause this, or is it simply coincidence?

    • Curator says:

Meteors are not magical. If your dog has had a sudden increase in the number of seizures, you need to call a vet and figure out what the real problem is.
