Why THE AVENGERS Failed In Getting Any OSCAR Award? 1) It was not even in nominations of BEST MOVIE of the year. How is that possible?
THE AVENGERS is one of the best movie i have ever seen.
    2) What is the criteria of nominating a film in oscar? I mean do they have judges to decide or they take opinion of common people or what?

    • Curator says:

Because the academy honors films of the highest calibrate quality possible ever made of the year they represent. The Avengers despite in my opinion being one of the best movies of 2012, is still just a popcorn flick, possibly the greatest one ever made I will admit. But still a popcorn flick.

The academy again honors films that change and define what film can do in terms of production, effects, sounds, acting, screenplays, cinematography, and visuals. Despite the achievement of being the first crossover superhero movie, The Avengers used the same story formula and did nothing new to change it nor explore any relevant themes or concepts outside of good vs evil. Its no different then any superhero film outside of there being more then 1 present in the film.

In contrast the Dark Knight, a comic book movie that did win oscars, did not follow the superhero formula. Yes there was a superhero who went up against a supervillian and won. However the film also touches on relevant themes and commentary on real life, and the introspective journey of what it means to be a hero and how far a person should go to protect the lives of others all the while losing themselves in the process. And in the end no one really won it goes to show that the world is not as black and white as we want it to be. That is why the Dark Knight won oscars.

Avengers while giving us excellent action and characters does little of anything else sustainable to warrant a oscar outside of visual effects which were super-berg. In contrast the of the Avengers to the movies that did win its no contest in ever category.

Best Actor: No one else but Daniel Day Lewis was going to win.

Best Director: As much as I love Joss Wheldon, I fully expected either Spielberg, Affleck, or Lee to win.

Best Actress: While I do have problems with Anne Hathoway winning, I picked Sally Field, her performance along with a majority of Les Miserables outshines the Avengers.

Best Film: Argo/Lincoln. I will honestly admit these movies are not for everyone, but if you look at the high quality of all these categories I mentioned earlier that are present in these films then its just no contest.
(Yes I know Argo won but if it didn’t it would have been Lincoln)

Avengers is a crowd pleaser meant to generate mass appeal and love with a devoted fan base, as a result expectations are far easier to supress. The real challenge for the films that won the oscars is that they are not trying to please anyone, they are trying to tell a story to the best of their ability without a set goal in mind. As a result expectations are far higher and so is the risk for failure and if a film manages to surpass every category and every expectation put in front of it, then why should it be ignored for a movie in which its whole purpose was to be great and memorable without any risk for failure?

The Academy is not a democracy, even if the nominees and winners are chosen by a panel of independent community, but if it was then imagine the greater horrors that would emerge. Twilight winning best picture, megan fox winning best actress, Micheal Bay winning best director.

Take my words if you want or not, The Avengers is one of the best movies ever made in my opinion and I loved every single second of it. However it was not meant to win oscars that’s not what they wanted. They wanted to make a great movie, make everyone happy, and open the door to future expansion. They succeeded in all those goals. Would it have been nice if they won an oscar? Yes. Did they want one or even care? No they didn’t.

What Oscar Award Winner From A Previous Year Has Stood Up To The Test Of Time? This means you still think the film or actor or actress deserved the award.
Can be a film that won Best Picture or had a winner in any category.
Please tell us something about the film, such as…
    What was the basic plot?
What was the award for & when was it awarded?
What was so great about that film or that award winner?
Must tell us something other than film title in order to qualify for Best Answer.
Please name only one film in order to leave something for other people to answer.

Here’s mine: I chose West Side Story, out in 1961, award ’61 or ’62, because I liked it then on film & on stage in a college production. The movie rec’d 10 awards, including Best Picture. I still loved it when I saw it on stage at another college again a few years ago with a talented h.s. girl with beautiful voice capturing the innocence of the young Maria. (and looking more Puerto Rican than Natalie Wood btw.) I’m sure the gangs of N. California were on everyone’s minds. I don’t see many films, but I’m sure I’d still love it, especially the songs America & Maria. It’s unfortunate that the gang problem has remained with our culture & has stood the test of time, but we still can enjoy the artistic merits of the production & the similarity to Shakespeare’s story of Romeo & Juliet.

What Did You Thought About The Oscars A Few Nights Ago? I know it was a few days ago, there was a lot surprise winners. what was your thoughts on the oscars

    • Curator says:

For me, this year was very disappointing, almost as bad as 2011 when Anne Hathaway and James Franco bombed. I thought MacFarlane was dreadful in the beginning, and his jokes low-class. And this year didn’t have films that I thought were really entertainment enough, with two films political docudramas, Argo and Zero Dark Thirty, and Lincoln being essentially another docudrama, that left just a few other entertainment films. I wasn’t much thrilled with any of the films this year so it was the least exciting of any awards show that I can recall from the past.

I thought the awards themselves went well, and perhaps did reflect what I felt – every film got some award, even if it was just one, and that means that not one of them was so great that there warranted a sweep of awards, so it wasn’t any one film that won big but individual acts that were recognized. Like the year Titanic was nominated and Lord of the Rings – they took 11 awards; Chicago took 6 awards, Slumdog Millionaire took 8 awards. The awards were divided completely across the board as each major category was for a different film, that’s very telling. No one film took two of the major awards – Best Film, Argo; Best Director, Life of Pi; Best Actor, Lincoln; Best Actress, Silver Linings Playbook; Best Supporting Actor, Django Unchained; Best Supporting Actress, Les Miserables.
