Remembering Rik Mayall, Britain's Finest Comic Firecracker

9 June 2014 | 7:27 pm Rik Mayall, an irrepressible British comedy legend who was an equal master of brutally intense physical comedy and wry class satire, died at the tragically young age of 56 today of unspecified causes. An enormously influential performer across the pond, Mayall's humor often seemed to play to the lowest common denominator but belied a worldly view of his home country's social dynamics. • OMG Can You Believe Rik Mayall is Dead? :O I am surprised..just logged back into here and saw on yahoo page.
He was a great british actor who was in shows and films two which where: Bottom and The Young Ones.

Really a shame he is dead at 56 not very old and a sudden death once again.

  • Do You Believe The Illuminati Exist? I think they do like seeing things online like nwo card game from 1995-1997 things on it coming true a few years later e.g. twin towers, singer who looks like Lady Gaga and other things. Famous people dying suddelnly something not right with that….Rik Mayall the lastest person to die by them me thinks. Other things make me think. Plus when I answer on here saying about the illuminati I get reported lol.

Were You Aware That Rik Mayall Died Today? A bit sad really, he could have recreated Alan B’Stard based on the current Government…

RIP Rick, you will be missed, thanks for the laughs along the way…

What Is This Romantic Comedy’s Name? The girl had imaginary friend when she was a kid (she wasn´t crazy). He was a little older than her. When the girl was 7 or 8 years old, her imaginary friend left. When she grew up and had a boyfriend (or a fiance, or a husband, I don´t remember), her imaginary friend came back.He had nowhere to live so he stayed at the girl´s apartment. At first, she dind´t recognize him. But in the end, they fell in love.

I watched them in the ’80s on MTV, when MTV aired a series called ‘The Young Ones,’ and some short films that the duo had done with other ‘Young Ones’ actors at the time, such as Rik Mayall. I think they were originally on the BBC, but was a huge fan, at the time. Have no idea where they could be seen, today.

Teens: Who Are Your Favorite Comedians? Unless your dull and humorless. You’re bound to love comedy. I enjoy the British sense of humor the most. But not all of my favorite Stand up Comedians are British.

    I Like
    Scottish comedian Danny Bhoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQKj6gkoJyE

    American comedian David Strassman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB3g7PcF1vs

    English comedian Ricky Gervais https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9T5cxnowyA

    Those are my top 3.

    • Curator says:

I laugh at just about anybody, whether I know them well or not. Just earlier today, I watched the end of a set by John Oliver, who promised an impression of a rooster possessed by Mrs. Doubtfire. “And to anyone who’s already laughing right now, I love you.”

But I do like a lot of comedy that’s surreal, silly, or pokes fun at anything stupid and pointless. Eddie Izzard, Patton Oswalt, Louis C.K, Robin Williams, George Carlin, and Billy Connolly are some of my favorites there. Though a lot of what I watch, comedy-wise, are comedy teams on TV; the Marx Brothers, Fry and Laurie, French and Saunders, Ade Edmondson and Rik Mayall, Monty Python, In Living Color, Whose Line, and SNL.

Do You Find The Two Ronnies Funny? I grew up with them and they were good at the time but it has dated so much since and I cringe when I watch most of it now, yet so many celebrities like Ricky Gervais, Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan seem to be really sycophantic to Ronnie Corbett whenever they are around him. Am I the only person who thinks like this? Do you still find the two Ronnies funny?

    • Curator says:

Sometimes. I agree with Anonymous Dog that the writing has dated badly, but Porridge was a very good series, and I have a soft spot for Open All Hours, with the young David Jason. I agree that Corbett’s solo work consists of nothing really worth watching.

Rik Mayall’s generation were funnier, but I grew up with them on TV. Of the earlier generation, I prefer the Pythons and Peter Cook (perhaps the main rival to Mayall as my favourite comedian). Spike Milligan was funny as well.
