It’s no secret that Maria has no friends on the tour, and there is absolutely an on-court rivalry going on between her and Azarenka while Maria and Serena have an off-court rivalry (and let’s face it, with Serena owning Maria on the court, there’s no rivalry there!!). Serena and Azarenka are BFFs and have so much respect for each other. Then you have the new drama queen Sloane Stephens who finds Serena disrespectful because of her loud “come-ons” on the court, while everyone hates Anastasia Rodionova and Yulia Putintseva. And of course the “Serbian Sisters” Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic don’t get along well off the court. The top Polish player Agnieszka Radwanska thinks that the Sharapova and Azarenka grunt is too annoying while Wozniacki is avoiding all the drama by going down on her boyfriend Rory McIlroy during their weekly sleepovers. Serena used to date Grigor Dimitrov but dumped him for a hunky Frenchman who’s married and has kids and is now her coach (they also have weekly sleepovers). Maria took Serena’s sloppy seconds and started dating Grigor while Azarenka is having fun with Redfoo from LMFAO. But surprisingly the WTA top 3 have love in their life and that seems to keep them hungry for more titles (& more drama!). I love it because it draws the much needed attention to the sport and it brings fans interested in the game who may have otherwise not have been interested to watch the sport to begin with. As long as the WTA stars continue to produce good results on the court, I see nothing wrong with the off court drama.

Which Of The Black Tennis Players Had More Talent? Zina Garrison, Alexandra Stevenson, the girl who beat Steffi in the first round at Wimbledon, Sloane Stevens.

    • Curator says:

Obviously overall the best black player has been Serena, then Venus

Then its Zina. She was pretty consistant, she made it to a slam final, was consistantly in the top 10 (career high of 4), and made it to many slam semis and quarters. She won an Olympic gold medal in doubles..She had quite the career. If she didn’t play in the time of Navratilova, Evert, Seles, Graf she probably would have won a slam.

Then next is Lori McNeil. She is most remembered for her win over Steffi, and run to the semis where she almost made it to the final but lost a tight three set 8-10 to Conchita Martinez (Martinez went on to win, no perhaps if Mcneil closed it out she would have one). But before this moment she was already an established player in 87 when she made QFs in Aus, SFs at US and top 10 entrance (she didnt achieve great success til her Wimbledon run in 94!) But still she had more credentials then the others mentioned

Sloane is next, but her stock is rising, and she may very well be #1 out of the girls you mentioned in a few months / years. She already has 1 SF and hopefully has more

Alexandra Stevenson was basically a flash in the pan, making it to the semis of Wimbledon, captivating the tennis world, then doing nothing after.

ALSO you forgot to mention Chanda Rubin a top 10 player and slam semifinalist. I would put her slightly before Sloane Stephens, but that will probably change to pretty soon because Sloane has so much potential
