The Space Shuttle Enterprise was the first Space Shuttle orbiter. It was built for NASA as part of the Space Shuttle program to perform test flights in the atmosphere. It was constructed without engines or a functional heat shield, and was therefore not capable of spaceflight.

Enterprise was stored at the Smithsonian’s hangar at Washington Dulles International Airport before it was restored and moved to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles International Airport.

On December 12, 2011 ownership of the Enterprise was officially transferred to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City. On April 23, 2012 Enterprise is expected to be flown to JFK International Airport and in mid-2012, be moved by barge to the Intrepid Museum In preparation for the anticipated relocation, engineers evaluated the vehicle in early 2010 and determined that it was safe to fly on the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft once again.

You Know You’re A Chicago 90’s Kid If…? It’s 90’s Kid: Local Edition! I guess that being a 90’s kid in New York City has different personalities than any other 90’s kids anywhere. So let’s see what it’s like to be a 90’s kid in Chicago.

If you were born between 1984-1989
You couldn’t help but be a huge Chicago Bulls fan
You’ve seen Home Alone 1 and 2 and you wanted to visit the actual “house” in Winnetka where the movie was filmed
You had to stay indoors because of the 1995 heatwave
You were surprised about the Spice Girls performing in Chicago in 1997
You cried all day when Michael Jordan decided to retire
You have visited the Glenview Naval Base every year before it was closed down
Going to Gurnee Mills was the big deal
You have rode on any rides in Six Flags Great America: Space Shuttle America, the Giant Drop, or the Raging Bull

No. In one hour maybe. Sub orbital hops that long require almost orbital speed, so you’d have to get up to around 13,000 mph for that vehicle to work.
A 5 hour flight could be done with something like an SR-71.
