I Want To Be An Astronaut? I’m 28. I have a BA in business. I’ve spent the last 6 years living overseas and working as an English teacher.

The last few years, I’ve become fascinated by space. I consume as much about it as possible. I really would like to travel in space someday and just be a part of humanity’s mission there. But I realize I’m a bit passed the prime age for that kind of training.

Also, I don’t necessarily have any skills that NASA or other space agencies might require an astronaut to have. I’m thinking about pursuing a second degree or even an MA is the mathematics/physics/computer sciences area. Is there any hope for me?

Maybe I’m not meant for NASA, but the private space arena is growing. Who knows what kind of skills SpaceX and other companies will require.

I just want to go to space. I would do anything for it. Even clean toilets on the space station if that’s what it took.

Will A Degree In ME Exclude Me From Working In The Spacecraft Industry? Hello

I’m graduating in a month, and I have received a full-ride scholarship to Texas Tech University. I’ve chosen to major in Mechanical Engineering, though my passion is for Spacecraft Propulsion and Astronautical Engineering. Unfortunately, TTU doesn’t offer an Aero. Engineering degree plan, so I’m curious if, by majoring in ME, I’ve set myself up for a life of HVAC Repair, Automobile maintenance or consumer product design.

The recent news of companies like SpaceX and Planetary resources have made me want to eventually work for a private space company, but I’m afraid they will only hire Aero. Engineers.

Any advice/experience from spacecraft engineers out there? Thank you.

I Want To Go Into Outer Space…do You Think This Is Possible? Yeah yeah, I know the space shuttle program was shut down but there are still a great number of private companies like SpaceX who build spacecrafts and will take people there (for a lot of $$$). Of course, I don’t have that kind of money and I don’t know if I ever will. But my dream is and always has been to explore space. Not exactly as an astronaut, I don’t want to do missions. I just want to see it all for myself. Do you think this will be possible for me within my lifetime, considering how fast technology seems to evolve? There is also the possibility of achieving immortality by merging man with machine, as Ray Kurzweil talk about so that even if we don’t have the means to go to space, we will be around when we do.
