Why Is Breastfeeding A Toddler So Offensive To Some People? I recently saw a cover of Time magazine in which a mother is nursing her three year old son. There was a ton of uproar on the “inappropriateness” of the photo. People kept commenting how wrong it was, how extreme, gross, etc. How breastfeeding shouldn’t go on that long and how if you do breastfeed you should cover up and hide it. Some said that they were upset because they would have to explain to their children what’s going on in the picture.
Am I the only one who doesn’t see it as a big deal? People say it’s not for nourishment at that point, but studies show otherwise – there are always tons of antibodies in breast milk and breastfed children tend to be healthier, smarter and better adjusted emotionally in the long-run – fewer issues with mental health problems, cancers, etc as adults. We have magazine covers at the check out stands that show women half naked, talking about “How to have amazing sex tonight”, “What men want in bed”, etc. But we’re offended by a nursing mother? Really?
Makes me feel like our “puritanical” society (not really!) has issues with what is normal and natural, although sadly not the “norm”. What gives?
What Page Was Chris Colfer On In The Time 100 Magazine? I know he was on the cover, but what page on the inside?
