  • Do You Know The UP Night Before Christmas Fable? ‘Twas the night before Christmas
    and all through the land
    the UP was running normal
    Working every man

    To the point pf exhaustion
    Some would implore
    It never really mattered
    When headed for the door

    The phone had rung
    it was time to serve
    I’d of laid off
    If I’d had the nerve

    No need to worry
    on this special night
They always hold the trains at Christmas
    to treat the crewmen right

To be home with our family
    on a wintry Christmas Day
    Warm and safe
    to watch our children play

    With me in my stockings
    and wifie in her fleece
    We lay our heads down
for a long much needed sleep.

    Dappled and drowsy
    snug in our bed
    When visions of Christmas past
    danced into our head

    “Remember the first one,
When we were so very poor?
    Yeah. Nothing but a mattress
As we slept upon the floor”

    “Remember another one
when you wanted the turkey just right?
Yep. I forgot to turn the oven on.
we had dinner late that night”

    Remember that one
you were called for Christmas morn?
    That was an emergency dear
So I was ready and willing to perform

And so we passed some time
    before drifting off to sleep
    Secure in the knowledge
    no railroad promises to keep

    Deep in sleep when
    awakened by a clatter
    The phone was ringing
“Now what the hell’s the matter?”

I fumbled for the phone to answer the call
that I knew was some kind of jerk
Who had dialed a wrong number perhaps
    I KNEW it wasn’t work

    But on the other end
a crew dispatcher I did know
“It’s a warm day in Calcutta boy
but it’s time for you to go!”

    “Wait a minute. It’s Christmas
I don’t wanna work right now!
No matter to me Mr. Hogger,
in Calcutta we worship the cow”

    “But it’s Christmas, we always
    shut down, I know.
That was the old SP boy,
now it’s time for you to go.”

    “Must be for Amtrak,
    Or perhaps a tardy pig?
    Nope. 130 cars headed north
Make sure your lunch is big!”

“A dirty old dog on Christmas Eve,
what could possibly be the point?
    Keep the shareholders happy boy,
it’s they who run this joint”

Resigned to my fate I packed my lunch
    and headed for the door
    Knowing there’s no way out
my tired rump dragging on floor

“Why did I answer the phone
    Christmas it did cost!
Look at the bright side, honey.
    No discipline for being ‘lost’

I passed the mantle on my way out
where the effigies were hung with care
    the MOP, the Super,
    Even the MTO was there

We battled the snow, me and my truck
    arrived near 30 minutes late
‘Cause the both of us had gotten stuck
Behind a tree downed at the lake

The MOP met us by the door
    fuming mad at me
“What he hell took so long?
    It’s nearly quarter after three”

    “It was tuff, boss.
    There was this fallen tree
I got my own problems boy
    this is the Union P!”

    “So grab your paperwork
    and don’t forget your grip
    I’m runnin’ this show now
    And YOU’RE MAKIN’ THIS TRIP!”

The C and I gathered our stuff
    and headed for the train
Where soon the air was tested and
we were ready to take the main

    “This is the Yardmaster.
What do you want of me?
We’re ready to head north here, boss
    here off track sixty-three”

    “I’ll call the dispatcher and
    try to get you out
    I told the C we’re screwed”
But as men we couldn’t pout

    Christmas is a special time
    and stories I’d been told
    Spoke of a Christmas angel
working miracles in the snowy cold

I though to myself, “Christmas Angel
if you have something for me
Better bring it on quick, ‘cause we’re ready to pull
    here on track sixty-three”

    Then all of a sudden
    again rose a clatter
    I turned up the radio
to hear what was the matter

    And what did my
    astonished ears hear?
    Not a report of eight
    tiny reindeer

    It was a report from
    some more dopes like us
    Out working Christmas Eve
but there was a great fuss

    And as I listened intently
    it soon became quite clear
    Eight locomotives of yellow
with three more toward the rear

Operating as a DPU, the helper
    was entrained at Glide
Near the middle of Oregon but
it was a California ‘over ride’

    “This is the Conductor dispatcher,
    UP 6133.
    We’re in the ditch”
    good news for track sixty-three

“Looks like twenty on the east side
Maybe that many on the other”
    Could this really be happening?”
    I inquired of my brother

Our hearts pounded, our minds raced
    can it TRULY BE?
Came the call we had waited for
“They busted your call on track sixty-three”

We secured our train in nothing flat
    and tied up immediately
    Laying low and moving fast
    Trying to salvage Christmas eve

Turns out there is a Christmas angel
And all the stories were right
    Even working Christmas eve
    long into the night

And as I left the yard office
Through the door, forward and to the right
I turned around and bade the rest
“Merry Christmas, suckers! Have a stUPid night!”
    LOL.

You guys are fun. Sorry if you have to read here, but as soon as Yahoo allows for voice, words are pretty much all anyone here has to work with.

    Merry Christmas.

  • Heather says:

I Am Looking For An Animated Christmas Movie About A Homeless Boy Who Gets A Job In A Toy Factory.? In the very beginning of the movie, Twas the night before Christmas is being recited. When it says “not a creature was stirring not even a mouse” a mouse stirring a pot chuckles and says something along the lines of “Excuse me but I’m a mouse and I am stirring”. The boy in the movie has dark hair and I think some of the toys come to life. It’s been a long time so I can’t remember much else. If anyone knows what it’s called or how I can find it please let me know.

  • Matthew says:

Whats The Name Of This Christmas Story? It’s a classic story. I think you hear it in the grinch and some other christmas movies. It’s something like” On Christmas night, not a creature was stirring, only one very loud mouse” then they hang up there stockings and Santa comes. I want to know the name of this poem so i can find it online and read it.
I think i messed that up. Instead of a really loud mouse it was Not even a mouse!

  • Vitae says:

Is This An Obama Christmas? ‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the White House
    Not a creature was working, not even his spouse;
No stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
    because Michelle and the kids were in Hawaii spending 7 million there;

The Obama voters were nestled all snug in their beds,
    While visions of free cell phones danced in their heads;
And mamma with her free healthcare, and unemployment benefits with no cap,
Had just settled down for a free winter’s nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the mail box I flew like a flash,
Tore open the mail and got my free cash.

The welfare check hadn’t got wet in the snow
Obama was still passing out free dough,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a sign I must not work, at all of next year,

With a Socialist driver, so conniving and quick,
I knew in a moment he was their Saint Nick.
More taxes for the working and spending pretty much insane,
    and he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, Daschle! Now, Boxer! Now, Franken and Reid!
On, Pelosi! On Feinstein! On, Baucus and Biden!
over the debt ceiling! No spending fire wall!
Now tax away! Tax away! Tax away all!”
